Digi-Key IoT QuickStart Kit – Get Your Environmental Monitoring Project Off and Running in Less Than an Hour

Many IoT projects involve monitoring conditions in an environment, whether it be the temperature in a data center, the humidity in a greenhouse or the pressure in a controlled manufacturing facility. Picking a board, sensors, and connectivity can be a time-consuming process, but having to customize or develop software and a user interface can potentially add weeks or months of complexity to your project. This ready-to-use, all-in-one IoT kit includes everything a developer or engineer will need to set up an environmental monitoring solution; complete with a professional browser-based user interface that runs locally on your embedded board, laptop or server. For development engineers and system integrators that means no soldering, no on-going cloud subscription, no always-on Internet connection, and even better – no hours or weeks spent coding or writing custom software.

The Raspberry Pi version of the kit includes all the hardware and software you need to get started and finished in about an hour, including a Raspberry Pi 3B+, SD card with Raspberry Pi OS pre-installed, and SparkFun's popular and multi-faceted BME280 sensor which can measure humidity, pressure, and temperature.

Also included is a premium license for Machinechat’s JEDI One IoT Data Manager software. Sensor data is quickly gathered using the integrated HTTP and TCP-based data collectors. Custom data collector plug-ins allow for collecting data from any device, sensor or application without altering their native protocols. With the drag-and-drop menus, creating professional user-friendly dashboards and configuring sensor monitoring and data storage for your IoT project are quick and easy. JEDI One’s modern browser-based graphical user interface with SSL and multi-user support provides access to your project data from anywhere on the network. With this IoT QuickStart Kit, it takes just a few simple steps to get up and running with your environmental monitoring project. First, get your Raspberry Pi set up; this can be done with or without a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Then connect the sensor to the Raspberry Pi using jumper wires. Ensure your Pi is set up with I2C enabled as that is what the Pi and sensor will use to talk to each other. Then a little configuring is needed, followed by setting up the dashboard. Currently, the Digi-Key IoT QuickStart Environmental Monitoring Kit is only available in the Raspberry Pi version.
