The LTC3625 and LTC3625-1 are Analog Devices’ third supercapacitor chargers, the first being the 150mA LTC3225 and LTC3225-1, a charge pump doubler with current limiting and automatic cell balancing, and the second is the linear-based 2A LTC4425. The LTC3625 and LTC3625-1 address high peak power, data backup and “dying gasp” needs in portable and data storage applications. The LTC3625 employs a switchmode buck and boost architecture to charge two supercapacitors in series to a pin-selectable output voltage with high efficiency. Key features include programmable charge current (1A max), both buck and boost charging capability, automatic cell balancing, supercap voltage regulation and peak voltage clamping, low quiescent current, status indicators, and various protection features. The LTC3625 and LTC3625-1 are available in a compact, thermally enhanced, 12-lead, low-profile (0.75mm) 3mm x 4mm DFN package. The devices are specified over a -40°C to 125°C operating junction temperature range.
